RICHMOND NEWS & INFORMATION
GRTC Recognition :: The Richmond Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber congratulates GRTC Transit System for being recognized by the American Public Transportation Association as the best of its size (4 million to 30 million rides annually) in the country. The business community recognizes the great service that GRTC provides to our community, and encourages Richmond City leadership to be supportive of initiatives that will enhance public transit and expand our system to be progressive and efficient. We applaud John Lewis and the entire GRTC team for this achievement, and will continue to work to increase corporate and community support for regional mass transit.
Downtown Master Plan: A revised draft version of the Richmond Downtown Master Plan is available for review here. A public hearing on the plan will be held in front of the City Planning Commission on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 1:30pm in the conference room on the 5th floor of City Hall. The City Planning Commission will consider adoption of the plan and recommendation for approval to City Council, and the public is encouraged to attend the meeting to share thoughts on the plan with the City Planning Commission. For more information, contact Brooke Hardin at (804) 646-6310 or email.
Virginia School Superintendent of the Year: The Richmond Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber congratulates Richmond City School Superintendent Dr. Deborah Jewell-Sherman for being named the Commonwealth's Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents. The Richmond Business Council recognizes the dramatic academic improvements made by Richmond City schools during Dr. Jewell-Sherman’s six years as superintendent, including the increased percentage of city schools meeting state accreditation (from 18 percent to 84 percent). We applaud both Dr. Jewell-Sherman and the Richmond Public Schools for this wonderful award and recognition, and will continue to work to increase corporate and community support for Richmond Public Schools.

DonorsChoose.org: The Richmond Business Council supports the efforts of the Richmond Public School System for their successful participation in DonorsChoose.org. Donor’s Choose is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund. For more information, click here.
