Henrico Business Council Issues
KEY ISSUES
2010 Henrico Mock Interviews :: Please consider participation in the Henrico Mock Interview Program on either January 14, 2010, February 24, 2010 or on both dates. Realizing that internships and work experiences often open the doors to better job opportunities and greater success in college, the Henrico Business Council is partnering with the Henrico Education Foundation to offer mock interviews at J. R. Tucker High School and Henrico High School. The mock interview program is designed to provide students the opportunity to practice their interview skills and benefit from feedback from the actual business community. Education :: The Henrico Business Council recognizes the important link between quality childhood development and education and the economic vitality of the region. Among their key initiatives is their support of the Henrico School Supply Challenge, sponsorship of a night of shopping with students in need through the YMCA’s Bright Beginnings Shopping Night program, providing business expertise and professional feedback during mock interviews for students at J. R. Tucker and Henrico High School through the Mock Interview program, and support of technical training. > learn more about Henrico County Public Schools here

Members of the Henrico County Board of Supervisors provide regular updates for the business community of their respective magisterial districts at the inVision Henrico Networking Breakfast meetings.
The Henrico Business Council engages the Board of Supervisors through the Lunch with your Supervisor program designed to enable business leaders to meet with the supervisors, better understand issues they face, share concerns of businesses in Henrico County, and to develop a forum to discuss strategies to affect a better partnership between business and our elected officials.
Business Engagement :: A key initiative of the Henrico Business Council is to focus on engaging the business community of Henrico County and the Greater Richmond region. The council will provide direct feedback on efforts to engage Chamber membership in networking opportunities and programming, visioning, and personal development. Affordable Housing :: The Henrico Business Council recognizes the important interconnection of the availability of affordable housing and the economic vitality of the county. Accordingly, the council has developed a strategy to address affordable housing in Henrico County. > affordable housing strategy
GRTC Recognition :: The Henrico Business Council congratulates GRTC Transit System for being recognized by the American Public Transportation Association as the best of its size (4 million to 30 million rides annually) in the country. The business community recognizes the great service GRTC Transit System provides our community and encourages the Henrico County leadership to be supportive of initiatives that will enhance public transit and expand our system to be progressive and efficient, especially into underserved areas of our county.
Central Virginia Transportation Authority :: The Henrico Business Council supports the formation of a Central Virginia Transportation Authority. The business community recognizes the value of having a regional body with the ability to fund transportation projects that are a priority for our region independent of the Commonwealth’s budget, where local government can identify and prioritize projects. Given the state of the budget shortfall, it is highly unlikely that the Commonwealth will devote new transportation dollars to projects in Central Virginia in the near future or that the county alone can supply the funding needed to match transportation needs.
