• Resource Bank connects classrooms with community :: A new initiative is in place to connect Chesterfield students with local experts. The Business and Community Resource Bank will pair teachers looking for speakers, student mentors or classroom volunteers with community members willing to share their knowledge and experience. The Greater Richmond Chamber is proud to partner with Chesterfield County Public Schools to encourage member businesses to participate in this initiative. Submitting a survey online is the first step to volunteering your time and talents. Available now at www.chesterfield.k12.va.us
• Nominations are open for Chesterfield County’s 2010 First Choice Business Awards :: Each year, Chesterfield County honors local companies that contribute to the county’s economy and its residents. The intent is to give recognition to businesses that consistently contribute to the community by giving back to the residents of Chesterfield County through community service, or create and deliver products or services that are innovative to its customers. Other criteria include that a business is a leader in valuing its employees, and upholds the principles and standards of ethical business practices. On behalf of Chesterfield County, the Department of Economic Development, the Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce, and the Chesterfield Business Council are inviting nominations for the 2010 First Choice Business Awards. Companies may nominate themselves and/or be nominated by any individual or group within the community. > learn more
• Donations benefit teachers and students :: Are you de-cluttering? Replacing office furniture? Clearing out a warehouse? From Crayons to Computers will pick up your unwanted items and pass them on at no cost to Chesterfield County teachers to use in their classrooms. Donations are tax-deductible. From Crayons to Computers is a free store stocked with donations from small and large businesses, community groups and individuals. Teachers visit the store and take whatever they can use. The inventory changes weekly depending on what is donated. Items include paper, computers, chairs, decorations, carpet squares, craft supplies, filing cabinets, shelves and more. Only food and clothing are not accepted. Educating more than 58,000 students, Chesterfield County Public Schools is one of the 100 largest school systems in the United States. Chesterfield was the largest school system in Virginia to have every school fully accredited in 2008-2009. In a recent survey, 87 percent of Chesterfield citizens rated as excellent or good the education provided by Chesterfield County Public Schools. • Boards and Service Opportunities :: Chesterfield County is a “First Choice” community in part because of the many citizens who volunteer their time and talents to the county. The county receives valuable guidance from citizens who serve on a number of boards and commissions. Anyone interested in serving the county must complete the boards and commission application form. For a full listing of boards and commissions, current vacancies and terms that will be expiring soon, please visit the Chesterfield County website. The Chesterfield Business Council applauds the county and its leadership for bringing engagement opportunities, like board and commission appointments, to county residents and we encourage the business community to apply for service with the County where your participation can make a difference.
• 2009 Bravo! Awards :: The Chesterfield Public Education Foundation is pleased to announce the inaugural class of Bravo! Award recipients. The Bravo! Awards will honor annual alumni of Chesterfield County Public Schools for their outstanding accomplishments and achievements. The winners are:
