A Message from the Hanover Business Council Chair, Owen Matthews
Welcome to the Hanover Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber. Our council is committed to identifying and addressing issues of interest to the businesses of Hanover County. We do this through advocacy, relationship building, and recognition. Through partnership with the Greater Richmond Chamber, we are able to provide Hanover businesses interaction and cooperation throughout the Richmond region. I invite you to attend one of our monthly networking breakfasts which provides businesses with valuable content, through a relevant speaker program and designated networking time. Our council has four primary committees that are focused on Government Affair, Education, Workforce Development, and Member Value. Our members are proud to operate their businesses within Hanover County and it is our goal to continue to maintain the County’s business friendly climate and excellent standard of living.

About the Hanover Business Council
The Hanover Business Council’s mission is dedicated to supporting the business community in Hanover and surrounding counties by:
• Connecting members of the business community through monthly networking events
• Identifying and addressing key issues of interest to the business community
• Keeping the business community informed on state and local government information, as well as providing news, information and resources relevant to the county
• Providing engagement opportunities through Hanover Business Council Committees
The Council is comprised of volunteers from the county’s business community, who lend time, resources and knowledge to address key issues of interest to the community as a whole, primarily focusing on business related topics. Currently, the Business Council is focusing on the following priorities:
• Education - The Hanover Business Council works with Hanover County Public Schools and other education based institutions on business-education initiatives and business engagement including an adult mentoring program and a topical speaker series for students at the Georgetown School, Hanover County Public Schools’ Boardrooms to Classrooms program, connecting the business community to the Hanover Center for Trades & Technology, and fostering meaningful business/education partnerships.
• Member Value – The Hanover Business Council provides significant input in identifying and suggesting interesting and informative program content for the series of local networking events and defining locality special events such as the Hanover Legislative Reception. The council also recognizes and promotes business as a vital component of the thriving community and works to ensure the value of our members’ experience with Chamber events and programs based in Hanover County.
• Government Affairs – The Hanover Business Council implements local government relations activities. They identify and address issues of interest to the business community within Hanover County and advocate for solutions with local, state, and federal elected and appointed officials. They maintain ongoing relationships with elected and appointed officials. The committee provides direct representation to the GRC Government and Community Affairs subcommittees. The committee and council also partner with the Hanover County Public Schools, Sheriff’s Office, Economic Development Department, Community Services Board, and Hanover County government to advise the Hanover Business Council of key issues pending before these agencies.
• Workforce Development – The Hanover Business Council focuses on promoting Hanover County and its business community to the region’s workforce and supporting economic development as critical to the county’s economic vitality.
There are a number of opportunities for engagement through the Hanover Business Council and the Greater Richmond Chamber. We encourage you to learn more about the Council through the following resources:
• Attend Business Council networking events to meet members of the business community who care just as much about our region as you do
• Explore volunteer opportunities through the Hanover Business Council and lend your expertise to a committee

As with any organization, the Hanover Business Council owes much of its success to volunteers who give of their time, expertise and resources for the greater good of the business community. We appreciate the commitment members of the Council's Cabinet make to the community.
