Public Housing
Richmond City Mayor Dwight C. Jones has made overhauling public housing a key piece of his agenda.
On March 20th, the Chamber invited city leaders and Chamber Board members to meet Renee Glover and Shirley Franklin, two key figures in the City of Atlanta's public housing revitalization project. Renee is CEO and president of the Atlanta Housing Authority, and Shirley is a former mayor of Atlanta and current CEO of the nonprofit consulting group Purpose Built Communities.
They shared with the group how they rallied the public, private and non-profit communities to turn fast-declining public housing projects into successful mixed income communities, where rents are a mix of affordable and market-rate, crime rates have dropped and graduation rates have risen dramatically.
