HYPE Women: Play Pattern
September 24, 2014, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Genworth Financial Building #2
6620 W. Broad Street
Playtime is an important part of childhood development, but as we grow up our “recess time” gets shorter and shorter, often to the point of non-existence. The River City Magnolias, an amateur water ballet club, recognize and embrace the importance of play and use it to build friendships, self-confidence and a sense of empowerment. These water dancers will lead an exploratory discussion of why playing helps to maintain our social wellbeing and how that helps us deal with career and life stress. .

Public Policy 101
October 9, 2014, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
305 E. 9 Mile Road
We’ve all heard the phrase “all politics is local” but what does that really mean? What’s the difference between politics and policy, and what happens when the two don’t agree? How do public officials shape policy, and what deals are done in private behind closed doors? Three of the Richmond Region’s youngest elected leaders will join HYPE for Public Policy 101, a follow-up event to the Greater Richmond Chamber’s Politics 101 program that concluded in September. Our panelists will share their insight into the public policy-making process, why it’s important that young professionals have an active voice in their local and state governments, and how you can get involved to make sure our government responds to what’s important to you as the next generation of civic leaders. The goal of this event is to support more YPs engaging in the political process and public service. It’s through this action that we can continue to improve RVA.
